Meet Dr. Anderson
Dr. James D. Anderson, Jr. earned his D.D.S. degree from Emory University Dental School in 1975, and completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Georgetown University Medical Center in June, 1979. He began his specialty career in Atlanta in July, 1979 and subsequently established James D. Anderson, Jr., D.D.S., P.C. on April 1, 1981. Dr. Anderson received his Board Certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1982. He practices the full scope of his specialty with particular interest in TMJ and trauma surgery.
Dr. Anderson is a long-standing Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Southeast Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the Northern District Dental Society, and the Hinman Dental Society.
Dr. Anderson is retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of Colonel after 29 years of service. He has served as the primary Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Ft. Benning, GA for trauma and reconstructive surgery during Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1990 and 1991. He was again activated to serve as the first Theater Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan in 2002. For his distinguished service he received the Army Legion of Merit Award. Dr. Anderson is a graduate of the Air Force Air War College. He served as the Commander of Detachment 1, 3297th US Army Hospital, the largest hospital unit in the southeast during his command tenure.
Dr. Anderson has been married to his wife Kathy since 1971, and they have two children, Michael and Laura. The Anderson’s are active members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.
