We monitor our appointment requests several times a day and will usually reply within one business day during open hours.
Your initial appointment will consist of a head and neck exam and a consultation to discuss your diagnosis and treatment options. If possible, surgery will be performed on the same day as your preoperative consultation. When a complex medical history or treatment plan requires a separate evaluation, a second appointment to provide treatment on another day will be necessary. We ask all patients that anticipate having surgery on the day of their consultation to not have anything to eat or drink for eight hours prior to their appointment so that general anesthesia or sedation can be utilized if necessary. Generally, the removal of impacted wisdom teeth requires general anesthesia, whereas the extraction of one tooth usually only requires nitrous oxide (laughing gas). We also require that you have nothing by mouth for eight hours prior to surgery even for nitrous oxide sedation. You may have a small sip of water to take your regular medications, except for Aspirin, blood thinners, diabetic medications including insulin, and MAO inhibitors.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation and surgery visits.
A pre-operative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV sedation or general anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or Drink for 6 hours before the appointment. The preoperative consultation and the actual surgery are normally performed at your first appointment. Therefore, a responsible adult or guardian must be present at the first appointment in order to drive the patient home after surgery.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, insulin etc.)
If your dentist or physician has taken a panorex x-ray, you should request that they email or mail them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring your panorex x-ray to our office. A panorex x-ray is required to completely evaluate your jaws. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
